Mathematics Bridge
Class
Mathematics plays a very integral role in our day to day life as we all
make use of its’ basic mathematical operations. It is commonly said that a
child who does Mathematics well, can also do other subjects better because
doing Mathematics is an exercise of brain. In this context, it is very
important to help our learners to have a very profound understanding of basic
concepts in Mathematics. This will also help our young minds to grasp higher
level of Mathematics in future.
In the words of Ms. Namrata Bahl, HOD (Mathematics),
“The Mathematics Bridge Class has bridged the gap between the normal teaching and understanding problem. These Classes were organized from April onwards on every Saturday. The learning gaps found in the Diagnostic Classes were bridged for the better absorption by the child. Simplified content in the form of PowerPoint presentation/Notes/ Extra practice questions/ Questions from the Remedial Worksheet were explained in an elaborate manner. Mock tests were taken to acquaint the weak students with practice of the M S forms before the Periodic tests. These classes gave the chance to the weak students to ask their doubts individually and they participate individually.
“I got the opportunity to teach the concepts of integers to the students
of class VII in the month of April and May 2020. I tried to find the basic
issues with the learner to understand the basic concepts.
Every individual learner, I taught and interacted, was having different pace of learning and that is very natural also. The one thing that proved to be of great help to these kids was my individual attention and my pace of teaching was in accordance with their pace of learning.”
Mathematics,
a subject that revolves around the abstract can be a little intimidating for
the students. It is necessary to keep in mind the individual learning styles
and capacities of every student to ensure effective teaching. Our Maths Bridge
classes aim at fulfilling this learning gap by focusing on students who need
extra guidance to understand the concepts.

“Class VI Mathematics Bridge class for Topic: Symmetry was conducted to help the students understand and visualize the concept in a simple and comprehendible way. The examples focused on drawing real-world connection to the topic to make it more approachable and engaging. Symmetry in case of basic shapes like square, rectangle, circle etc. was explained to the students by demonstration using cutouts of the shapes and folding them to find out possible lines of symmetry and rotational symmetry. The students were also shown a video on kaleidoscope and how it uses reflection symmetry to create beautiful patterns. The students found it helpful and a revision quiz was taken at the end of the topic to assess their learning.”
-Ms. Risha
Imran.
Having
a concept of Bridge classes gives an enriching experience for the students who
feel uncomfortable in clarifying their doubts among the group. It’s a platform
design especially for students so that they can commence their journey of
unambiguity from not knowing the concept to being confident in knowing them.
” We have these classes every Saturday for boasting their moral and love for mathematics. I took these bridge classes on the chapter Exponent and power” for class VIII and make use of digital tool and worksheets for better understanding of concept. I am glad that students are gaining confidence and happy to see their overwhelming responses.”
– Ms.Tanvi Taneja
Every learner has their own pace and ability to understand and apply, some students do it quickly during the class whereas some students demand extra efforts or special mentoring/guidance so the online bridge class was planned to build up that gap between the learning objectives and learning outcomes.
“It was a great experience to conduct the bridge sessions as
there are limited number of students who can easily get special attention by
the tutor and individual need is cater and each one gets the chance to answer
or ask their queries and it's a great medium to test their knowledge
simultaneously by giving them small task to be done in the session itself.”
